August 2015 - RUGBY RECRUITMENT CAMPS

Welcome to the Nanaimo Hornets, where Community, Legacy and Excellence form the basis of what we do! Our Community extends beyond the club membership as we support sport and physical activity of all kinds. Rugby is unique in that there is a place for every body type and all skill levels, plus the social aspect forms an important part of our culture.

The Hornets have a rich history as one of the first clubs in North America, dating back to the 1890’s. Over the years, we have many members who have gone on to play for Canada and this Legacy continues as we hope to have a Hornet representing Canada at an upcoming Olympics!

We strive for a culture of Excellence in all aspects of the game, from the quality of coaching through to the expectations of all players, both on and off the field. We don’t just want success in competition, we want our members to be successful in Life.

Whether you are a seasoned player or new to the game, the Nanaimo Hornets welcome you to a chance to experience the game of rugby and some ‘Hornet style’ hospitality.

Each session features some skill development drills and fun activities to put skills into practice.

the BENCH

Posted By: Nanaimo Hornets

2012-04-23 11:24:42 Nanaimo Hornets News

After a sensational 1st division battle with Surrey (unfortunately we lost 37-27), we had the unveiling of our BENCH.  A large crowd of players, families and fans gathered to "toast" our teammates who have "left the field too early".  The Bench built by Stu Jones (Peter Earthorne's son-in-law), contains the names of some of our most significant passed teammates:  Wayne Peace, Norman Marshall, Robert "bobby 02" Owen, Colin Cresswell and Peter Earthorne.  In typical Hornet fashion, the "project" was a TEAM effort.  Right down to the landscaping (thanks Dr. Don), the concrete platform (thanks rugby Roy), the plaque and securing (thanks Gabe Gregg), the concrete (thanks Mayco cement), the purchase of the plaques (thanks Althouses) and all the other folks who supported the endeavour.  A lovely bottle of 15 yr. old Glenfiddick (thanks Wayne Jennings), was soon dispensed with and the day was a wonderful opportunity to reflect and remember our freinds.  Check out the pictures on this website.  Good job Hornets.

We will be having the unveiling of the Hornets Memorial Bench following the Men's 1 and 2 div. teams home games against Surrey.  The Bench was crafted by Stu Jones in memory of his father-in-law Peter Eathorne and he, the rest of the Eathorne family, the Althouses and the Hornets have decided to incorporate this wonderful gift as a Memorial Bench to our Hornet teammates that have left us.  There will be 5 individuals being honored at the unveiling.  Make sure that you get out and enjoy the game and celebrate our history.

Steve, TMG
